Assumptions: ALEO per day is your MH/s times the reward rate, minus the pool fee. The prover pot follows Aleo’s documented schedule, so it shrinks by about 19 of roughly 151 anchor credits a year, 12.6%. Your share falls as hashrate grows.

Stake per solution follows Provable’s ARC-0046 table: 1.0M now, 1.25M from 31 Oct 2026, 1.5M from 31 Jan 2027, 2.0M from 30 Apr 2027, 2.5M from 31 Jul 2027.

The miner switches off in any month it loses money. Price stays flat at the value you enter. Staked ALEO is returned at the same price, so only its yield counts as income. Pool luck, downtime and resale value are ignored.

How Aleo mining pays you

Aleo miners are provers. They race to solve a coinbase puzzle, and each valid solution above the proof target earns a slice of that block’s coinbase reward. Provers get two thirds of it and validators get one third, per the Aleo tokenomics docs.

I sampled 400 blocks across 24 hours on 30 Sep 2026 through the Provable API. Blocks came every 2.9 seconds, and 66 solutions landed, about 59 per 360-block epoch.

Total prover reward follows the emission schedule, so extra machines dilute each other instead of growing the pot. The network paid 300,803 ALEO to provers in the 24 hours to 30 Sep, and your income is your share of hashrate times that pot.

Pools quote this as ALEO per MH/s per day. On 30 Sep it was 0.146. An IceRiver AE3 at 2,000 MH/s earns about 292 ALEO a day before the pool fee.

The stake you must lock to mine Aleo

Since 1 Aug 2025, ARC-0046 requires provers to stake ALEO for every solution they submit per epoch. Provable’s announcement sets a quarterly ladder, and it has already climbed ten-fold.

A solo AE3 finds a solution about every five hours, so in practice you stake through a pool.

By my estimate an AE3 owns 0.097% of hashrate, about 0.058 solutions per epoch, and needs roughly 57,600 ALEO ($1,400) staked today. F2Pool’s own Q0 estimate was 4,800 ALEO per GH/s, per LeedMiner. Today’s hashrate, solution count and stake give this page about 28,800 per GH/s.

Pools handle the stake differently. F2Pool’s 30 Apr 2026 notice says it holds a minimum staking amount in your balance and that mining rewards “notably decrease”. A second notice sizes that amount from your 10-day peak hashrate.

In the Rabid Mining video below, Whalepool showed “insufficient stake tokens” and “hash power not activated” until the user added ALEO. The same video shows ZK.Work’s 31 Jul 2025 post claiming it covers the stake at a 1% fee.

The locked ALEO keeps earning. In the 24 hours to 30 Sep, Aleo paid 355,881 ALEO in staking rewards on 1.076 billion staked, a gross 12.1% a year before validator commission. Compare that with your other options in the staking yield calculator.

Aleo ASIC comparison, 2026

Efficiency separates the survivors. The AE3 spends 1.7 joules per MH/s. The Goldshell models spend about 3.5 to 5.4 times more.

The AE0 is the trap. It costs $13.32 per MH/s against $3.00 for the AE3, and at $0.06 it earns seven cents a day. The RTX 4090 earns about half a cent of ALEO a day while burning $0.40 of electricity.

Line chart of IceRiver AE3 daily profit against ALEO price at four electricity prices
The AE3 breaks even on power alone at $0.0113 ALEO for $0.04/kWh and $0.0283 at $0.10/kWh. At today’s $0.0243, only power below about 8.6 cents works, and that is before any stake cost.

Worked example: one AE3 at $0.06 and at $0.10

Example

Use the 30 Sep snapshot: ALEO at $0.02429 and 0.1458 ALEO per MH/s per day. You buy an IceRiver AE3 for $5,999 and host it at $0.06/kWh in “I buy and stake” mode, with a 1% pool fee and 3% monthly hashrate growth. It earns 288.7 ALEO a day, worth $7.01.

Power costs $4.90 and staking income on about 57,586 ALEO adds $0.46, so you net $2.58 a day, about $78 a month. That stake would take 199 days of output to earn.

The emission cut and growing hashrate shrink each month, and the machine switches off in month 14. After 24 months you are $5,522 down.

At $0.10/kWh the same machine loses $0.69 a day even with staking income, and the calculator switches it off in month 1. Before you model your own case, compare it with the crypto ROI calculator.

What has to be true for payback? Power at $0.03, ALEO held at the $0.0425 peak, no hashrate growth and a pool that covers the stake. The calculator then shows payback in month 24, with nothing to spare.

Can you actually sell the ALEO you mine?

ALEO’s market is thin, and the volume figure flatters it. CoinGecko’s ticker feed, pulled 30 Sep 2026 at 08:41 UTC, lists 14 centralised pairs with $1.69 million of 24-hour volume and $312,590 of bids that would move the price down 2%.

Exchange pair24h volumeDepth to move price -2%
Coinbase ALEO/USD$521,947$54,742
Hotcoin ALEO/USDT$267,458$590
Gate ALEO/USDT$258,324$31,474
MEXC ALEO/USDT$157,744$21,049
XT.COM ALEO/USDT$144,244$16
Kraken ALEO/USD$54,241$25,311

Hotcoin and XT.COM report six-figure volume against $590 and $16 of depth. Trust depth over volume.

A single AE3 makes about $210 a month, which Coinbase’s $54,742 of bids absorbs with room to spare. A 50-machine fleet at $0.06 mines about 439,000 ALEO a month, $10,700 at today’s price, or 3.4% of that $312,590.

That fleet also needs about 2.88 million ALEO staked, roughly $70,000 of buying against $298,000 of ask-side depth.

Depth moves fast. LeedMiner’s 24 Sep snapshot of the same CoinGecko field showed $5,036 of bids on Coinbase, against $54,742 six days later.

What happened to ALEO on 24 and 25 September

CoinGecko’s daily series shows ALEO at $0.0153 on 21 Sep, $0.0161 on 23 Sep and $0.0241 on 24 Sep. The 00:00 UTC reading on 25 Sep was $0.0425, with trailing 24-hour volume of $31.4 million against $1.3 million on 22 Sep.

By 30 Sep the price was back to $0.0243, 43% under that reading and still 99.6% below the $6.72 high of 27 Sep 2024.

LeedMiner’s 28 Sep analysis links the move to a privacy-coin rotation.

It cites ZEC rising from about $1,026 on 5 Sep to $1,629 on 22 Sep and XMR from about $499 on 16 Sep to $591 on 21 Sep. It says plainly that this is an interpretation, not proven flow.

Coinro’s own Zcash calculator covers the ZEC side.

Aleo had news too: Shield Swap early access on 1 Sep and USDCx on Kraken on 14 Sep, both per LeedMiner’s summary of Aleo’s announcements, and both before the spike. Nobody can say which one, if any, caused it.

Miners did not rush in. Daily mean hashrate ran between 1.94 and 2.13 TH/s from 23 to 30 Sep, so the rally raised dollar revenue per machine without diluting it.

Line chart of Aleo network hashrate by month, peaking at 3.8 TH/s in November 2025 and falling to about 2.1 TH/s
Hashrate rose more than four-fold from April to July 2025, peaked at 3.80 TH/s in November, and has fallen as the stake per solution climbed from 250,000 to 1,000,000 ALEO. A price rally can reverse that, which is why the calculator has a growth slider.

The emission schedule and what it does to your income

Coinbase rewards fall on a fixed schedule. The anchor declines linearly by about 19 credits a year for nine years, then holds at a floor, and the supply hard cap is 5 billion ALEO.

Three of the 19 prover payouts in a separate 50-block sample hit the same ceiling of 100.58 ALEO, which is two thirds of an anchor near 150.9.

The calculator applies the same 19-credit yearly decline, so a machine’s ALEO output falls about 12.6% over the next twelve months with zero new hashrate.

Aleo mining pools and fees

Four pools hold almost all visible hashrate, and one of them holds most of it. MiningPoolStats, updated 29 Sep 2026, flags Whalepool as carrying more than 50% of pool hashrate.

PoolFee and schemeHashrate, 29 SepStake handling as documented

Spreading hashrate to smaller pools helps the network, but confirm the stake terms before you point a machine at one. I could not verify how ZK.Work pays for the stake it covers.

How to start mining Aleo

  1. Price the stake first. Run your power price through the calculator in all three stake modes. If the pool-covers mode is the only profitable one, read that pool’s terms twice.
  2. Buy an efficient ASIC. Stay near 1.7 J per MH/s. The AE3 lists 200 to 250 V input and 3,400 W, so budget a proper circuit, and iceriver.io limits purchases to ten units per account.
  3. Create an Aleo wallet. Leo Wallet and Fox Wallet are common choices. Write the seed down offline.
  4. Point the miner at a pool. Enter the pool’s stratum URL and your address, then check the pool dashboard after an hour.

Works for you

  • Dollar revenue per MH/s rose with the price while hashrate stayed flat
  • Staked ALEO pays about 12% a year gross on the locked part

Works against you

  • Stake per solution rises 25% on 31 Oct 2026 and 2.5 times by Jul 2027
  • Output falls about 12.6% a year on schedule alone
  • Real order-book depth is $312,590 across 14 pairs

Risks to price in

Power and heat

An AE3 draws 3.4 kW and needs 200 to 250 V. That is a dedicated circuit and a room built for heat.

Before you buy hardware

The stake ladder rises every quarter until July 2027. The same machine needs 2.5 times the stake it needs today, and a missing stake means zero rewards for the work you paid power for.

The price can fall as fast as it rose. It gave back 43% in five days after the 25 Sep reading, and you are buying a machine that only covers its power if ALEO stays above about $0.0226 at $0.08/kWh.

On 29 May 2026 F2Pool reported “severe and abnormal fluctuations” in Aleo difficulty. Its settlement data had errors, its reward estimates and calculator were affected, and it advised weighing the risk before adding hashrate.

The aleo.info’s leaderboard on 30 Sep also shows one prover address near 810 GH/s and two more above 550 GH/s, so a single operator leaving changes everyone’s share.

Rabid Mining, 10 Sep 2025. He runs an IceRiver AE0 and shows Whalepool reporting hash power not activated for missing stake. The stake rule has risen ten-fold since, so scale up what he says he needs before comparing.
brandon coin, 9 Jan 2026. A Goldshell AE Max II earns $5.32 a day against $10.75 of power at home, so he moved it to a revenue-share facility. He praises ZK.Work for doing the staking and sells his ALEO every couple of days. The $5.32 is his dashboard figure from January. It predates today’s price and reward rate.

Aleo mining FAQ

Is Aleo mining profitable in 2026?

An IceRiver AE3 earns about $7.01 a day at $0.0243, so power must stay under roughly $0.086 per kWh just to break even. Stake costs and a 12.6% yearly emission cut push that lower. At $0.06 it does not pay back $5,999 within 24 months in the calculator.

Can I mine Aleo with a GPU?

You can, but it earns almost nothing. WhatToMine lists an RTX 4090 at 1.40 MH/s for 280 W, about 0.2 ALEO a day, roughly half a cent. Power costs about $0.40 a day at $0.06 per kWh, and you would still need the stake to be paid.

How much ALEO must I stake to mine?

The rule is 1,000,000 ALEO per solution per epoch today, rising to 1,250,000 on 31 Oct 2026. An AE3 makes about 0.058 solutions per epoch, so its share is roughly 57,600 ALEO. Some pools hold it back from rewards, and ZK.Work says it covers it.

How much ALEO does an AE3 mine per day?

About 289 ALEO after a 1% fee, from 2,000 MH/s at 0.1458 ALEO per MH/s per day. IceRiver lists a 5% hashrate tolerance. That number falls as hashrate joins and as the emission schedule steps down about 12.6% over the next year.

Which Aleo mining pool should I use?

Whalepool and F2Pool both list 1% PPLNS, and ZK.Work lists 1%. Whalepool carries about 62% of known hashrate, so a smaller pool helps the network. Choose on stake handling first: F2Pool holds it from rewards, and ZK.Work says it covers it.
